⚖️ Verdict

A compelling fantasy trilogy with intricate time-travel mechanics and deep world-building. Perfect for readers who enjoy complex plots and non-linear storytelling. Be prepared for a lot of lore, especially in book 3.

Thoughts

A great series that are unique and in depth. James Islington creates deeply intricate worlds built with layers and layers of lore. I greatly enjoyed books 1-2. For book 3 I dragged my feet a bit as as he kept introducing new lore deep into book where I felt as if the fantasy world was already flushed out. In the end the extra lore in book 3 connected the entire series thus the extra details were quite important. I loved how it blended fantasy with “seriousness”. Islington is not afraid to kill of important characters to further the story. If your a fan of keeping track of multiple time lines and untangling a story in a non-linear fashion this book is for you!

⚠️ Spoilers (hover to reveal)

The revelation that Davian and Caeden are the same person across different timelines was masterfully executed. The way the trilogy ties together all the seemingly disconnected plot threads in the final book is incredibly satisfying, even if it does require introducing a lot of new concepts late in the series.
